Privacy policy
Rookaby keeps progress and settings on your device. The app has no accounts, advertising or analytics. This policy explains the app, the website and messages you send us.

1 The short version
Rookaby is a narrated chess-learning app for children aged 2 to 6. Progress and parent settings stay on the device. We do not receive gameplay, recordings or a child’s profile. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google.
This website is for parents and other adults. Cloudflare hosts it and provides cookie-free visitor statistics. If you contact us, we use your message to answer you. We never sell personal data.
2 Who is responsible (controller)
Oomny B.V. provides Rookaby and is responsible for personal data processed through this website and support. Its registration and address are on our legal information page.

3 Where your app data lives
Progress, purchases recorded by the app and parent settings are stored on your device. Rookaby has no account system, cloud sync, chat, advertising or analytics. Narration is included with the app; it does not record your voice or send gameplay to an AI service.
On Android, narration in languages other than English is delivered by Google Play as a download that belongs to the app, when you choose that language or it matches the device language. To deliver it, Google Play processes technical information such as the device model, Android version and app version under Google’s privacy policy. We do not receive this information.
Apple and Google handle purchases through their stores. The app checks the store’s purchase entitlement to unlock content. We do not receive your payment-card details. Store records and device backups are governed by your store account and device settings.
4 What this website processes, why, and on what basis
- Technical connection data. Cloudflare processes IP addresses and request information to deliver and protect the website. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Visitor statistics. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures page visits and loading performance without cookies, local storage or fingerprinting individual visitors.
- Support messages. We process your email address and the message you choose to send to answer your request. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), or performance of a contract when your request concerns purchase support (Article 6(1)(b)). Please do not include unnecessary information about a child.
The website has no advertising, profiling or automated decisions about you. Purchases take place in the stores, not on this website.
5 Service providers and recipients
Cloudflare hosts this website and provides cookie-free visitor statistics. Microsoft 365 receives and stores email sent to our support and privacy addresses. Apple and Google distribute the app and handle purchases and any device backups under their own applicable privacy policies.
6 International transfers
Cloudflare and Microsoft operate internationally and may process website and correspondence data outside the European Economic Area. Their data-processing terms include the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses; applicable adequacy decisions may also apply. We do not promise that all processing takes place in the EU. Contact privacy@rookaby.com for information about the safeguards applying to your data. Independent services you choose, such as a store or cloud drive, explain their own processing in their privacy policies.
7 How long we keep it
- App data: remains on your device until you reset it or remove the app’s data. Any device backup is managed through your device and backup settings.
- Support and privacy correspondence: kept for as long as needed to handle your request and a reasonable period afterwards, or longer where a legal obligation requires it.
- Technical website logs: retained by the hosting provider for security and operation, not used to build advertising profiles.
- Store purchase records: retained by Apple or Google under their policies and legal obligations. Removing the app does not erase the store’s purchase record.
8 Your rights (GDPR)
Where the GDPR applies, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction and data portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights depend on the circumstances. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Contact privacy@rookaby.com. We normally respond within one month. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. If an extension is permitted for a complex request, we explain it within that month. We cannot retrieve content that exists only on your device.
You may complain to the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens or your local EU/EEA supervisory authority.
10 Children
Rookaby is designed for children aged 2 to 6. It stores progress on the device and uses no advertising, accounts or analytics. Purchases and external links are protected by a parental gate. This website is intended for parents and other adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
11 Changes
If we change this policy we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be made clear.
